Step 1

Confirm Your Eligibility

You must belong to one of these categories:

  • Spouses/common-law partners of:
    • International students in eligible Master’s (≥16 months), PhD, or select professional programs
    • Skilled workers in TEER 0–3 with 16+ months permit validity
  • Inland spousal/common-law PR applicants
  • PGWP holders, IEC participants, vulnerable workers, refugees
Step 2

Gather Required Documents

Prepare:

  • Valid passport
  • Proof of relationship (marriage/common-law)
  • Existing Canadian permit
  • Digital photo (IRCC format)
  • Police/medical exams if requested
Step 3

Create IRCC Secure Account

Visit the IRCC website:

  • Register an account
  • Select IMM 1295 (outside Canada) or IMM 5710 (inside Canada)
  • Upload docs, pay fees, and submit application
Step 4

Pay Application Fees

  • Work permit fee: CAD 155
  • OWP holder fee: CAD 100
  • Biometrics (if needed): CAD 85

Total: Approx. CAD 340

Step 5

Submit Your Application

Fill the correct form online, upload all documents, pay fee, and submit

Processing time: 6–10 weeks

Wait for Decision

Then apply for SIN and begin work

After Arrival or Approval

  • At border: Show intro letter to receive permit
  • Apply for SIN
  • Begin working in any job
