CANADA PROVINCIAL NOMINEE PROGRAM (PNP) DETAILS
The Canada Provincial Nominee Program was created to attract skilled international talent to Canada provinces facing a talent shortage. Thousands of successful applicants have relocated and permanently settled in Canada through the PNP program. Some of the best Canadian provinces to apply to under this program are:- Prince Edward Island
- Ontario
- Saskatchewan
- Manitoba
- Nova Scotia
- Alberta
If you are a skilled professional with experience in technology, finance, education, marketing or healthcare, now is the perfect time to explore your options through the PNP program.
You can apply under the PNP option to migrate to Canada if you want to live in a province, contribute to its economy and wish to become a permanent resident of Canada. Options in the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
There are two options when filling an application through the PNP program:
- Paper based process
- Through Experss Entry
The first step is to apply to the province or territory for nomination under the non-Express Entry stream. If you meet the eligibility requirements and qualify through the individual In-demand Occupation Lists of some provinces, you will get a nomination from the province if your occupation is on the list. You can then apply for a Canada PR Visa.
You will now have to submit a paper application for your PR visa. The processing time is usually longer than through the Express Entry system. Express Entry System: There are 2 ways to apply:
You can apply for a nomination by contacting the province or territory and apply for a nomination under the Express Entry stream.
If you get a positive response from the province or territory to nominate you, you can create an Express Entry profile or update your profile if it already exists.
The other option is to create an Express Entry profile and indicate the provinces or territories you are interested in. If the province sends a ‘notification of interest’ you can then contact them and then apply through the Express Entry system. You must meet the eligibility requirements for a successful outcome of your application.
Steps in PNP application for PR visa:
- Apply in the province or region where you desire to settle.
- If your profile meets the eligibility criteria, you could be nominated by the province to apply for a PR visa.
- Apply for your PR visa after you are nominated by a province.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
To apply for the Canadian PNP program, applicants need to present their:
- Current passport and travel history
- Educational credentials
- Professional credentials
- Recent medical report
- Police clearance certificate
- Other supporting documents
Features of the Provincial nominee program:
Canada offers nearly 80 different PNPs which have their individual eligibility requirements. The PNP program allows provinces to meet their individual immigration needs by helping them fill jobs that are in demand and meet labor shortages in their province. Most PNPs require applicants to have some connection to the province. They should have either worked earlier in that province or studied there. Or they should have a job offer from an employer in the province for a job visa. A provincial nomination can help you in two ways to get your PR visa. It can add 600 CRS points to your Express Entry application and makes you eligible to apply for your PR visa directly to IRCC.

Work Permit
A Canadian work permit is a legal document that allows a foreign national to work in Canada. The government of Canada issues over five hundred thousand work permits each year to temporary foreign workers. In other words, a Canadian work permit allows foreign nationals to get employed in Canada.
The application process for a work permit is a crucial step toward employment for foreign employees aiming to work in Canada. Therefore, it is essential to pass through appropriate pathways to obtain a Canadian work permit.
There are several types of Canadian work permits. Applying for a work permit in Canada can be done in several ways. Generally, to obtain work permits, an employer must submit a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), whereas, for other types of work permits, a relationship with Canada is required (previous education, spousal sponsorship, etc.). The following categories will help you find the correct work permit for your situation:
A work permit that is not tied to a single business or area is referred to as an open work permit. This ensures that a foreign national with a valid open work permit can work for multiple employers in different regions of Canada. Please be advised that some open work permits may have other conditions or limits that foreign nationals must comply with. Applicants do not need to submit a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). The followings are the types of Open Work Permits:
- Post-Graduation Work Permits (PGWP)
- Spousal Sponsorship from Inside of Canada
- International Experience Canada (IEC) (working holiday visa)
- Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP)
- Spouse Accompanying International Student or Worker
Benefits of having an open work permit in Canada
Open work permits are highly popular because they allow their holders more flexibility. Unlike most work permits attached to a certain business, an open work permit enables a foreign national to work for any employer in Canada, giving them the ability to move about with their ease. By gaining Canadian work experience you will also increase your eligibility to secure permanent residence in Canada.
The Temporary Foreign Worker Program is the standard temporary worker visa. It is given to foreign workers who have previously accepted a job offer from a Canadian employer and for whom the employer has acquired a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) from the Canadian government.
LMIA application is an official process of hiring a foreign worker for a Canadian organization. The foreign worker must first receive government approval before the hiring process takes place which is known as Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).
- Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP)
- Facilitated LMIA (Quebec)
- Global Talent Stream
Although you must have a work permit to work in Canada, in some instances, you are allowed to work in the country without a permit. Here are the work permits that are LMIA-exempt:
